CLOSENESS

The western border of Ukraine can be reached from Vienna by car within only 6 hours. Opening: Friday 23.June 18:00

Closeness is a community space which gives insights into works of Ukrainian artists and students who have been facing unprecedented artistic, personal and geopolitical challenges since 2014 due to the ongoing russian aggression and occupation and, since February 2022, the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. By bringing together and communicating different experiences, we are trying to reduce the constructed distance to the ongoing catastrophe which is happening much closer than it is regularly perceived.

The exhibition includes a discussion with Ukrainian and international artists, as well as a live performance that will take place over two days.

Participating Artists:

Anetta, Vira Hanzha, Andriy Helytovych, Mariia Lisovska, Matilda Marina, Daria Lytvynenko, miki-mike665, Natalia Matsenko, Anzhelika Palyvoda, Clemens Poole, Daria Pugachova, Alina Pust, Anne Schartmann, Tanya Shtykalo, Maria Shurkhal, Maria Soloviova, Beauty Studio, Victor Vasyliev, Nastja Verzun, Orest Yaremchuk, Yuri Yefanov.

PERFORMANCE

NO DISTANCE ALLOWED

two people performing on the floor among cardboard boxes

Due to the full-scale russian invasion of Ukraine more than 12 million people were forced to leave their homes.

In search of a connection with our new reality, we invite the audience to a staged process that constantly deconstructs the temporary home through private stories of fleeing. We are driven by a collective sense of urgency, in which we hope to develop new methods of creative work and strategies for different ways of support in the time of war. Performance is part of the exhibition Closeness.

Dates: 28.06 and 29.06, 13:00-16:00

In a time of environmental urgency, how do we find common ground for dialogue and action?

The art association Flechtwerk (https://flechtwerk.or.at) and performers (alphabetical order) Julia Bentz, Dominika Glogowski, Mariella Greil, Werner Moebius, and Lucie Strecker invite multidisciplinary researchers, activists, and artists to an experiential workshop that challenges our ‘self’ as a source of knowledge.

The workshop is part of the COST Action SHiFT (https://shift-cost.eu) and will take place from 9.30 am to 5 pm on May 30 and 31, in cooperation with the Angewandte Performance Lab and Zentrum Fokus Forschung.

Participation is free with a limited space of 25 people. The application is open until April 9 (23.59 CET) via the google formhttps://forms.gle/ZdgGVtqA9Ga39oew7. Accepted participants will be notified by April 16.

ANGEWANDTE PRAXIS Gespräch & Buchpräsentation:

Barbis Ruder. Werk – Zyklus – Körper

Mi. 15. März 2023 19 Uhr, Zentrum Fokus Forschung: Rustenschacherallee 2-4, 1020 Wien

Gespräch

Das Ephemere und das Statische – Performancekunst als Ausstellungsgenre

Im Rahmen der Buchpräsentation Werk – Zyklus – Körper von Barbis Ruder diskutieren Madeleine Frey (Direktorin des Max Ernst Museums Brühl des LVR), Julienne Lorz (Leiterin Expanded Museum Studies, die Angewandte) und Barbis Ruder (Künstlerin, Angewandte Performance Lab, PhD Kandidatin künstlerische Forschung) über die Möglichkeiten und Grenzen der Performancekunst in einer Ausstellungssituation. Moderiert wird das Gespräch von Peter Kozek (Künstler, Angewandte Performance Lab)

Buchpräsentation

Barbis Ruder.
