This will then lead us into an open score in which we\u2019ll explore performative tools and qualities like repetition, self-exposure, slight inappropriateness and re-configuration of space.<\/span><\/p><p><b>ABOUT: <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Michael Turinsky is a Vienna-based, disabled artist and theoretician, working at the intersection of contemporary dance and performance, disability, and political as well as aesthetic theory. Academically trained as a philosopher at the University of Vienna, Michael began diving into the world of inclusive dance in 2006. Later questioning the notion of inclusion, Michael coined his own term &#8216;crip choreography&#8217; to designate his unique artistic practice of engaging the specific, resistant materiality of the body in processes of subverting, de-organizing and re-organizing dominant forms and qualities of movement. In the understanding that performance is ultimately about entering into a relationship with an audience, this class explores the gaze as a central tool to mold and negotiate that relationship. Placing one\u2019s body on stage (in a wide definition of that term) can be a vulnerable act, especially when we work within the context of desire. Observing, witnessing, challenging, enduring, inviting, rejecting, avoiding, misleading, redirecting, etc. \u2013 different gazes evoke different spaces.
